Huron County’s Community Safety and Well-Being Plan committee has started a new campaign to promote safety and security in the area.
The campaign began on July 1st and aims to inform people about the programs by the Huron OPP and the help available to crime victims through Victim Services Huron Perth. Besides road safety, the campaign will also focus on securing property, the effects of vaping and smoking, the OPP’s school resource officer, and more.
At a June 27th press conference, Huron County OPP discussed the rise in distracted driving, which is now the leading cause of fatal crashes in Canada. Another program, CAMSafe, lets the public register their home or business cameras to help police with investigations.
In 2024, Huron County OPP has attended about 1,400 community events and activities, showing a positive police presence.
Victim Services offers safety planning, crisis intervention, agency referrals, on-scene support, and more.
