The north side of the rodeo bleachers behind the South Huron Rec Centre was found unsafe and removed, but there will be enough seating for the upcoming Exeter Rodeo.
The issue came up at the South Huron council’s July 15th meeting. Jeremy Becker, the general manager of community and emergency services, reported that staff inspected the bleachers on the north side of the rodeo ring and found many problems.
An engineer who inspected the bleachers said they were very old, damaged, lacked railings except on the outside, and were unsafe. There were several spots where a person could fall through the boards and get seriously hurt.
The damaged bleachers have been removed, but there will be enough seating for the rodeo from August 9th-11th. There are no other events at the centre that weekend, and bleachers from nearby ball diamonds can be moved to the rodeo ring.
