A group representing small businesses in Ontario is upset with NoFrills and its parent company, Loblaw, for an ad that encourages customers to “skip the line” at their local farmers’ market and shop at NoFrills instead.
The Farmers’ Market Cooperative of Nova Scotia and the Ontario Small Business Community noticed the ad on July 20th. They say the ad is unfair to small business owners who can’t stay open all year and face many challenges when trying to sell their goods in grocery stores.
NoFrills responded on Instagram, saying they understand the important role Canadian farmers play in feeding communities and that they partner with many of them each summer to sell local produce in their stores.
