Mitchell, ON, Canada - Aug 31, 2018: Mitchell was incorporated in 1857. Surrounded by high quality farmland, Mitchell still servers as agriculture service centre.
Mitchell’s 150th Homecoming promises to be an unforgettable celebration, but it all starts with a kick-off event.
To begin the fun, downtown Mitchell will host a big street party tonight!
Mitchell’s main street will be closed to traffic from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., but businesses will stay open, and there will be vendors, activities, displays, and opening ceremonies. There will also be an adult refreshment area for when you need a break.
And the best part? It’s all free, thanks to the Mitchell BIA.
The Clinton Pipe Band will bring dignitaries to the portable stage by the cenotaph at 5:30 p.m., and the opening ceremonies will start at 6 p.m. Jason & The Nomads will entertain after the opening while people shop, eat, and enjoy the events and attractions.
Most downtown stores and restaurants will stay open late, and there will be five food trucks to curb your hunger.
The Ministry of Transportation has allowed Ontario Road to be closed from St. David Street to the stoplights at St. George Street, as well as from St. Andrew Street to Montreal Street and south to Quebec Street, from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Poppy Lane will be closed from 1 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. to set up portable toilets. There will be bus transportation for those who don’t want to walk or find parking. The bus will pick up and drop off people behind the post office on Quebec Street, near the action.
Even if it rains, the event will go on, so fingers crossed for good weather. The show must go on!
