Lambton Public Health is warning people with private drinking water systems in Corunna, near Hill and Lyndoch Streets, not to use their tap water. There may be diesel fuel contaminating the water in this area.
Only private drinking water systems are affected; municipal water systems in Lambton County are still safe to drink. Local water treatment systems are taking steps to prevent contamination.
Until further notice, do not use the water from these private systems for any purpose. Avoid skin contact with the water. Also, avoid swimming in the St. Clair River near Lyndoch and Hill Streets.
Use alternative safe water or bottled water for everything, including:
- Bathing
- Drinking
- Gargling, brushing teeth, or rinsing dentures
- Hand washing
- Household cleaning
- Laundry
- Making ice, juices, or other mixes
- Preparing food and washing fruits and vegetables
- Preparing infant food and baby formula
- Swimming
- Washing dishes and countertops
If you can’t access an alternate water source, alcohol-based hand sanitizers with more than 70% alcohol can be used.
There are no known illness reports related to this issue. If you or someone in your family becomes ill, seek medical advice. Lambton Public Health will update you when the advisory is lifted.
