Lambton OPP thanked a quick-thinking civilian for rescuing a boater who fell overboard in Lake Huron on July 26th.
Around 6 p.m., OPP received a call about a boater who had fallen into the water near Bluepoint in Lambton Shores.
The civilian, who heard the distress call over marine radio, saw the boater in trouble and quickly pulled them out of the water and to safety before emergency services arrived.
An investigation revealed that a 29-year-old resident of Sarnia was charged under the Canada Shipping Act for not having proof of competency on board and for using safety equipment that was not in good working order.
The OPP reminded boat operators to have the required lifesaving equipment, such as lifejackets and personal floatation devices, onboard as required by Transport Canada.
