On Tuesday, August 6th, Huron Shores Area Transit (HSAT) thanked the Rotary Club of Grand Bend for their donation. This donation helped fund the installation of the transit system’s first three bus shelters. The $6,500 contribution from the Rotary Club helped cover part of the cost for the shelters, which are located at the bus hub next to Sobeys in Grand Bend, Points Plaza, and Army Camp Road at Kettle & Stony Point First Nation.
HSAT acquired eight used bus shelters from Stratford Transit in 2023. They were refurbished and painted Signal Blue, matching HSAT’s branding. The shelters are accessible and include a small two-person bench. After refurbishing the shelters, HSAT needed additional funds for the concrete pads required for their installation.
The Rotary Club agreed to help cover the costs for the installation and construction of the pads after a presentation. The Municipality of Lambton Shores’ Public Works Department assisted with the physical installation. The three locations for the shelters were chosen based on how many people use them and their exposure to the weather. Each shelter now has a plaque recognizing the Rotary’s generosity. HSAT is seeking more support from organizations and businesses to fund the remaining five shelters.
