Lianne Rood, Conservative Member of Parliament for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, has introduced the Flights Attendants Fairness Act, a common-sense Private Members Bill. This legislation aims to ensure fair compensation for flight attendants by requiring airlines to pay them for their work before, during, and after flights.
“Conservatives believe you should be paid for the work you do,” said MP Rood. “After nine years of this NDP-Liberal government, life has become unfair and unaffordable for hardworking Canadians.”
The Flights Attendants Fairness Act proposes amendments to the Canada Labour Code. It mandates that employers include the time flight attendants spend on pre-flight and post-flight duties, as well as mandatory training programs, in their paid hours.
“It’s unfair that flight attendants in Canada are not paid until their aircraft is in motion, even though they are required to be at work, in uniform, performing work-related duties beforehand,” said MP Rood. “While the NDP-Liberals block bigger paycheques for Canadian workers, Conservatives will cut through unfair red tape and ensure more substantial paycheques for hardworking Canadians.”
