Huron County OPP took part in a traffic safety campaign over the Labour Day long weekend, which ran from August 30th to September 2nd. The campaign focused on reducing the “Big Four” traffic offenses: distracted driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding and aggressive driving, and not wearing seatbelts.
OPP officers in Huron County worked hard to improve safety on both roads and water, especially as many tourists visited the Lake Huron shoreline and took part in local events. However, not everyone followed the rules, and several charges were issued by officers over the weekend.
There were 149 charges for speeding, 12 for not wearing seatbelts, 5 for impaired driving, 3 for stunt driving, 10 for insurance violations, and 1 charge for other criminal code traffic offenses. In addition, there were 36 charges for other provincial offenses. In total, officers laid 216 charges and issued 74 warnings.
