On September 3th South Huron Council approved new road names for three local subdivisions: Windermere, Huron Park, and Sol Haven.
In the Windermere Subdivision in Exeter, the new streets will be named Armstrong Street, Ambleside Street, Pryde Boulevard, and Eastern Avenue. Armstrong Street honors the Armstrong family, including Vera Armstrong, a World War II veteran. Ambleside Street recognizes Exeter’s historical ties to England.
For Huron Park, the streets will be McCurdy Avenue and Silver Dart Way. McCurdy Avenue is named after John Alexander McCurdy, the first Canadian airplane pilot. Silver Dart Way celebrates the Silver Dart aircraft, which made aviation history in Canada.
In Sol Haven, Dearing Drive and Sullivan Drive will be the new road names. Dearing Drive is named after William Abraham Raymond Dearing, a World War I soldier, and Sullivan Drive honors Joseph M. Sullivan and John T. Sullivan, both World War I veterans.
These names pay tribute to local history and military service and will be reflected on new street signs, with poppy symbols added to honor veterans.
