The community of Exeter, is getting ready for the 7th annual Murray’s Miles, set for September 22nd. The event is a 5-kilometer walk/run at McNaughton Park to raise funds for esophageal cancer research. The money goes to the London Regional Cancer Program at London Health Sciences Centre.
Creator of the event, Nicole Insley told us how the event got started.
Over the past six years, the event has raised more than $130,000. This has helped fund important medical tools like an ultrasound machine, which is used to diagnose and treat esophageal cancer.
This year’s event will start with registration at 8:30 a.m., and the walk/run begins at 10:00 a.m. People of all ages can join to run, walk, or simply come to support the cause.
Fundraising is a key part of the event. Participants are encouraged to ask family, friends, and coworkers to donate. Anyone who raises $300 or more will receive a free t-shirt as a thank you. All money raised goes directly to cancer research, helping patients and their families.
Esophageal cancer is tough to catch early, as it often doesn’t show clear signs until it’s in advanced stages. That’s why events like Murray’s Miles are so important. The money raised helps fund research and new medical technology to improve early detection and treatment. The London Regional Cancer Program has been a leader in cancer care, and thanks to Murray’s Miles, they can continue offering top care to patients.
