Sparks were flying at the latest South Huron Council meeting on September 16th as a new fire protection agreement with Lambton Shores took center stage. Jeremy Becker, the General Manager of Community and Emergency Services, lit the fuse by recommending the council approve an Automatic Aid Agreement—making sure both communities are ready to leap into action when things heat up!
The agreement would cover the area of South Huron between Dashwood Road and Mount Carmel Drive, extending from Corbett Line to the Lambton Shores border. This region was previously protected under a different fire protection agreement, but the new deal would ensure enhanced fire services to residents in the area.
According to the proposed terms, South Huron will pay $126.64 per household annually for fire protection, which includes 535 homes in the area. If Lambton Shores’ fire trucks are needed, an additional charge of $559.86 per hour will apply. Both South Huron’s Dashwood Station and Lambton Shores will be dispatched in case of fire, motor vehicle collisions, rescues, or entrapment calls, but not for medical assist or smoke/carbon monoxide alarm calls.
Council was asked to approve the agreement and proceed with the necessary steps to pass the by-law, ensuring the agreement moves forward as planned.
