United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH) has set a campaign goal of $2,624,772 for 2024-25. UWPH Executive Director, Ryan Erb, said it’s a big goal, but the focus this year is on supporting their partners. Many non-profits are struggling with longer wait times and higher demand, so it’s important to help them assist vulnerable people.
United Way is the second-largest funder of social services after the government. Their goal is to provide immediate help to those in need, but they also want to create long-term solutions for challenges in the region. This includes funding Connection Centres to help people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness access basic services and move toward stable housing. They are also working to create housing through their new United Housing initiative to improve local conditions.
The 2024-25 UWPH campaign started with events in Goderich, Listowel, Seaforth, Wingham, Exeter, and Stratford. A soup supper is planned in St. Marys on October 1st.
UWPH helps fund over 40 programs and services in Perth-Huron, including their Urgent Needs Fund, United Housing, and the Social Research and Planning Council. Last year, they raised $2.3 million.
