The Board of Directors and employees at Hensall Co-op are happy to announce the winners of the fourth annual Bright Futures Scholarship.
Marisa Huberts from Moorefield will attend the University of Guelph to study for a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. She aims to use her knowledge to help Canadian farmers and the agricultural community.
Abby Pepper from Merlin will go to Olds College for an Agriculture Management Diploma. She wants to gain the skills and knowledge to help farmers face challenges and support sustainable farming practices.
The third winner is Lauren Hoonaard from South Huron, who will also attend the University of Guelph to study for a Bachelor of Commerce, focusing on Food and Agriculture Business. She looks forward to working in agriculture to help farmers grow high-yield crops. Lauren has interned with Hensall Co-op, which also supports education in agriculture.
This year, there were so many applications that two additional grants were given. Matthew Peters will go to Fanshawe College to earn a diploma in cybersecurity. He plans to help farmers and agri-businesses protect their data from cybersecurity threats.
David Webster from London is attending the Ontario Veterinary College to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He wants to work with farmers and livestock producers to improve animal health and promote sustainable farming practices.
The Hensall Co-op Bright Futures Scholarship gives post-secondary scholarships to students interested in agriculture or trades that support rural communities. Up to three scholarships of $2,500 are awarded to children or grandchildren of Hensall Co-op members or employees as of March 1 of the application year.
