As we prepare for the end of Daylight Saving Time on Sunday, residents are also encouraged to take the time to check the batteries in their smoke alarms.
On November 3rd at 2 a.m., the clocks will turn back an hour, allowing us to gain a little extra sleep and some valuable time to be fire safe.
That was Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun who notes that the time change serves as a great reminder.
She also advises when alarms should be replaced.
Destun reminds residents to also check in on elderly relatives to make sure their homes are properly equipped and offer to help them if they are unable to change the batteries on their own.
Furthermore, as we “fall back,” there’s a noticeable change in energy consumption. With more hours of darkness, lighting and heating demands tend to increase.
Double check that all outlets in your home are not over extended and avoid plugging any heaters into extension cords.
