It’s Crabby Joe’s game day. The Exeter Hawks face off against Port Stanley tonight at 8pm at the South Huron Recreation Centre in Exeter.
Newcomer, Jordan Alexander is a dedicated defenseman for the Hawks, known for his skill, leadership, and teamwork. Raised in Gowanstown, Jordan’s journey into hockey began a little different than most players.
He says figure skating helped developed his balance and edge work. From there, he transitioned to hockey, playing for Listowel minor hockey teams, AAA with Huron Perth, and Junior B for the Listowel Cyclones before joining the Hawks.
Choosing defense as his position, Jordan feels his strength is in preventing goals rather than scoring them.
His proudest achievements include winning two OMHAs with Listowel minor hockey and, more recently, the Sutherland Cup with the Cyclones.
Since joining the Hawks, Jordan has quickly formed strong bonds with his teammates, describing them as a family. He values the supportive team atmosphere, where everyone feels comfortable and close. This strong connection also includes the coaches, who provide both encouragement and discipline, creating a positive environment.
Being the new guy is often a tough situation to be in, but Jordan says the team really is one big family.
Jordan’s goals for the season focus on team success rather than personal accolades. He aims to help younger players develop by sharing his knowledge and experience from years of playing at a high level.
The Hawks’ passionate fans play a significant role in Jordan’s game-day experience. He describes the atmosphere at home games as electric, with crowds so loud it’s sometimes hard to hear on the ice.
When it comes to game day, Jordan has a few game-day rituals, including sticking to the same meal when possible and a right-side-first superstition.
When it comes to tonight’s game, Jordan has a message for the fans.
Go tonight and cheer on your hometown Hawks! Come before or after the game and fuel up at Crabby Joe’s in Exeter.
