Around 20,000 residents in Huron and Perth Counties are currently without a family doctor. To address this gap, six Unattached Care Clinics (UCCs) were launched in November, providing a local solution for primary healthcare needs and reducing reliance on Emergency Departments or walk-in clinics.
These clinics offer essential services such as cancer screenings, prescription renewals, blood tests, surgery follow-ups, and care for chronic conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. By focusing on early detection and management, the clinics aim to prevent more severe health issues that might otherwise require emergency intervention.
The UCCs are funded for one year, but community leaders are advocating for ongoing support to establish them as a permanent part of the healthcare system.
Appointments at the clinics are available only to individuals without a family doctor. Those already under the care of a physician in Ontario are not eligible. For more details or to find a clinic in the Huron-Perth area, visit their website.
