The Municipality of Bluewater has decided to move forward with expanding the Bayfield Wastewater Treatment Facility. This decision followed discussions at the Council’s regular meeting on November 18th. The contract for the project has been awarded to Finnbuilt General Contracting for $11,169,486, including HST. Eight bids were received during the tendering process, with costs ranging from $11,169,486 to $14,011,963. The total includes a $500,000 contingency.
The municipality has budgeted $11,434,500 for the project. Funding will come from a combination of sources, including a grant of $8,347,185 from the Province of Ontario’s Housing Enabling Water Systems Fund.
The current facility, built in 2001, treats more than 1072m³ of wastewater daily, which exceeds its approved capacity. The expansion will increase its treatment capacity to 1750m³/day to meet both current and future needs.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2025.
