Today is Crabby Joe’s game day. The Exeter Hawks face off against Lucan tonight at 8pm at the South Huron Recreation Centre in Exeter.
Jayce Durand, a forward for the Exeter Hawks, has become a key player for the team, proudly wearing number nine on his jersey. Growing up in Exeter, Jayce was introduced to hockey at a young age, inspired by his friends who also played the sport. His passion for the game grew as he advanced through the ranks, eventually playing at the AAA level before returning to his hometown team.
Jayce’s decision to play as a forward was driven by his love for scoring goals. Now in his second season with the Hawks, he emphasizes the strong bond among his teammates and coaches.
He noted that the bond is unmatched between everyone involved with the Hawks.
Reflecting on his hockey journey, Durand considers his proudest moment to be overcoming the setback of being cut from the Huron Perth Lakers. This experience motivated him and a few friends to come back stronger.
Wearing number nine wasn’t Durand’s original choice; he had worn number 19 throughout his youth but opted for number nine when his preferred number was taken. Despite the change, he’s made the number his own.
Just like other players myFM has interviewed, Jayce has high praise for the Hawks’ dedicated fan base, describing them as the best in the league.
As the Hawks push through the season, Durand’s personal goal is clear: to help lead the team to a YECK championship. He also has a message for the fans ahead of an important game.
Go and cheer on your hometown Hawks! Come before or after the game and fuel up at Crabby Joe’s in Exeter!
