Today is a rare Tuesday Crabby Joe’s game day. The Exeter Hawks face off against Thamesford tonight at 8pm at the South Huron Recreation Centre in Exeter.
Ben Nauta, a centerman for the Exeter Hawks, has quickly become a standout player in his third season with the team. Wearing number 19, and the Assistant Captain jersey, Ben’s dedication, leadership, and love for the game have made him an integral part of the Hawks’ success.
Growing up in Listowel, Ben was raised in a hockey family. His father introduced him to the sport when he was young, and Ben quickly fell in love with the game.
Now, in his third year with the Hawks, Ben has taken on more of a leadership role, earning the title of assistant captain.
He describes this year’s team chemistry as stronger than ever, with a close-knit group that feels more like a family. As an experienced player, Ben is stepping up both on and off the ice, mentoring newer players while continuing to develop his own skills.
Known for his relentless work ethic, Ben plays bigger than his size suggests. While he may be smaller in stature, his coach describes him as “tough as nails” and playing with the heart of a much bigger player.
Ben prides himself on playing a defense-first style, believing that good defense leads to success later in the game. His endurance, a trait he developed from a young age, has made him a perfect fit for the center position.
The Exeter Hawks have some of the best fans in the league, and Ben can feel their energy every time he steps onto the ice. He says the atmosphere at home games, particularly on Friday nights, is unmatched.
Looking ahead, Ben’s ultimate goal with the Hawks is to win the Schmaltz Cup. He believes this team has the potential to achieve that, and anything less would be a letdown. He’s focused and determined to help lead the Hawks to a championship.
As the Hawks prepare for a rare Tuesday night home game against Thameford, Ben has a simple message for the fans.
Ben’s dedication to his team, his leadership on and off the ice, and his passion for hockey make him a true asset to the Exeter Hawks. Fans can look forward to seeing more from this talented centerman in the seasons to come.
Go and cheer on your hometown Hawks! Come before or after the game and fuel up at Crabby Joe’s in Exeter!
