A special weather statement has been issued for Exeter, Goderich, Bluewater, and Southern Huron County, warning of strong winds and heavy rainfall this weekend.
Wind gusts are expected to reach speeds of 70 to 80 km/h today and Sunday. Rainfall totals could range from 15 to 35 mm, with some areas seeing even higher amounts. The frozen ground may struggle to absorb the rain, increasing the risk of flooding.
Strong southerly winds will begin this morning and continue into the afternoon before easing tonight. However, winds will pick up again on Sunday morning, shifting to westerly as a cold front moves through. Conditions should start to improve by late Sunday afternoon.
Heavy rain is expected overnight into Sunday, with the highest amounts likely in areas affected by thunderstorms. This could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas and water pooling on roads. Loose objects may be blown around, posing a risk of damage or injury, and power outages are possible.
Residents are encouraged to check for flood updates from their local Conservation Authority or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. More information can be found at Ontario.ca/floods.
