Caesar Pella is running as an independent candidate in the upcoming Federal Election for Huron-Bruce. While his name on the ballot might raise eyebrows, Pella says his campaign is no joke.
Pella brings an unusual background to the campaign trail. Once a political journalist, he walked away from media and politics to take on hands-on work in construction and farming.
His campaign, he says, isn’t about party loyalty or chasing popularity. For Pella, the biggest problem with politics today is the party system itself.
His main priority is tackling inequality and hunger.
One of his key proposals is a “Robin Hood levy,” a policy aimed at redistributing wealth more fairly.
Pella is unapologetically bold in his messaging. He talks about the wealth gap as “legal theft” because he believes the system has lost its moral compass. He’s also direct when it comes to international trade and the impact of U.S. politics. He didn’t hold back in criticizing former U.S. President Donald Trump.
If elected, Pella says his job won’t be to “play the game” but to push for meaningful change.
He also wants to see Canada adopt a voting system like Australia’s, where voting is mandatory.
Tomorrow we will continue with our candidate features.
