The South Huron Community Theatre is bringing the classic musical Hello, Dolly! to the stage this weekend, and director and choreographer Deb Homuth says it’s a show the whole community will enjoy.
Hello, Dolly! is a well-known Broadway musical that was also made into a movie starring Barbra Streisand. The story is set at the turn of the 20th century and mixes romance, comedy, and music.
The show features dancing, singing, and a live orchestra. Homuth said this year’s cast is one of the most talented she’s ever worked with, with great characters, beautiful costumes, and strong performances.
For the first time, the production includes a dedicated costume mistress, Cecilia Morrissey, and a milliner, Gail Little, who created the many stylish hats worn on stage.
Some cast members are returning from past shows, while others are performing for the first time. The group normally puts on two shows a year—one at Christmas and one in the spring. While the holiday show often includes children, this one features an all-adult cast.
The musical will be performed at the South Huron Recreation Centre in Exeter on May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, with all shows starting at 7:30 p.m. and doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets can be bought at the door.
