The Municipality of Lambton Shores is asking residents and stakeholders to share their ideas as it plans to set up a new not-for-profit group to help manage future tourism efforts. This group, called a Municipal Services Corporation, will be part of the upcoming Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) program.
People are encouraged to complete an online survey to give feedback on important parts of the new group, such as its name, goals, and board of directors. The survey is open until Friday, May 16th, and can be found at lambtonshores.ca/MSC.
Creating this corporation is the first step toward starting the MAT program, which will begin in January 2026. The MAT will eventually help pay for both tourism projects and municipal infrastructure. Right now, the focus is on building a strong, local organization to make sure tourism dollars are reinvested back into the community.
Provincial rules say that 50 percent of MAT money must go to a not-for-profit group that promotes tourism. By creating its own Municipal Services Corporation, Lambton Shores can make sure the funds stay local and help grow tourism close to home.
