After a year-long investigation, Huron County OPP have laid charges in connection with a reported theft of 45,000 baby chicks from a farm in South Huron in April 2023.
Police were first called to the farm on April 20th, 2023, after a report that 30,000 chicks, just 15 days old, had been stolen overnight. That number was later updated to 45,000, with the total loss valued at more than $139,000.
Following a detailed investigation by the Huron OPP Crime Unit, police have now charged the person who originally reported the theft. A 41-year-old from South Huron was arrested on May 6th, 2025. He is facing two charges: Fraud Over $5,000 and Public Mischief.
The suspect has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.
Police are still encouraging anyone with more information about the case to contact Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or 519-482-1677.
