Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has finished its review of a crash that happened north of Wingham on February 17th, 2025. The crash involved a Huron County OPP cruiser, a snowplow, and two snowmobiles. A 46-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl were injured and taken to hospital with broken bones.
The SIU started its investigation that same day as police were involved and people were seriously injured.
According to the report, there were whiteout conditions at the time, and the South Bruce OPP had closed the southbound lanes of London Road. A Huron OPP officer went out to check the road and make sure the signs were in place.
The officer stopped on the side of London Road near Glennanon Road with emergency lights flashing to help a vehicle stuck in a ditch. While he was there, a snowplow hit the back of his cruiser, pushing it into the two women who were standing beside their snowmobiles.
The officer was not injured.
SIU Director Joseph Martino has decided there is no reason to continue the investigation and has officially closed the case.
