The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is coming back to Huron County on Wednesday, June 4th, and the community is invited to be part of the excitement.
The Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Special Olympics Ontario are encouraging everyone to either join the run or come out and cheer on the participants as they pass by. The event brings together Special Olympians, police officers, families, friends, and supporters from across the county to walk, run, scooter, or stroll in support of Special Olympics.
The Torch Run is the biggest public awareness campaign and fundraiser for Special Olympics in Canada. Since it began, it has raised over $80 million to help support athletes with intellectual disabilities.
This year’s Huron County Torch Run will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Maitland River Community Church on Josephine Street in Wingham. From there, the group will make their way through town and finish at the south end of Wingham. After that, participants will travel to Blyth, Clinton, and Goderich.
The final leg will take place in Goderich, where a celebration barbecue will be held at McGee Motors on Suncoast Drive East to wrap up the day’s events.
Anyone wishing to donate can do so during the event by cash or cheque, made out to “Ontario Special Olympics.” Free bus transportation will be available from the Goderich Legion on Kingston Street to Wingham. Those taking the bus should arrive before 8:00 a.m.
