A brand-new nonprofit organization in South Huron is working hard to bring people together with a community celebration this summer, and they’re hoping more sponsors and donations will help make the event even better.
Jonathon Roulston, chair of the Huron Togetherness Project and the South Huron Canada Day Committee for 2025, says the group came together by chance earlier this year.
The idea was to host a full weekend of Canada Day celebrations, with live music, events, and fireworks. But after facing challenges with logistics and limited support from local service clubs, the group decided to create their own organization to take the lead.
Due to a lack of sponsorship, the group had to scale things back.
Just because there is no fireworks at this point, doesn’t mean there aren’t still other events planned. Big Brothers Big Sisters and the local BIA are offering youth events like cookie decorating at the town parkette. The Optimist Club and others are running a bike rodeo and setting up booths at the library. The South Huron Art Centre is also involved, offering a creative class during the day.
Despite the reduced schedule, Roulston says they’re still aiming to make it a great community event and there’s room for it to grow, with enough support.
So far, the group has received some generous support. Roulston gave special thanks to Hay Communications and Huron Apothecary IDA, the event’s two biggest corporate sponsors, along with many individual donors.
Donations can be made at hurontogethernessproject.org.
Community members are encouraged to get involved, donate, and help make this year’s event a success and lay the groundwork for an even bigger celebration in 2026.
