The Ontario government is making it easier for people to enjoy the outdoors by investing $20 million over four years in the Greenlands Conservation Partnership program. This program is helping to protect land and open more trails across the province, including several new additions along the Bruce Trail.
In 2024–2025, 15 new projects will make over 1,650 acres of land available for public use at no cost. These trails will help people spend more time in nature close to home, while also supporting local tourism and businesses.
The new projects were chosen through a competitive process led by the Ontario Land Trust Alliance (OLTA). The funding will be matched by private donations to protect natural spaces and make them accessible to the public.
The goal of the Greenlands program is not only to protect nature but to give people more chances to explore it. All funded projects must offer public access, giving visitors the chance to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, walking, and exploring.
By working with land trusts and conservation groups, the province is helping communities protect nature while encouraging healthy, active lifestyles and boosting local tourism.
