It has been a very sad few days at Ipperwash Beach in Lambton Shores, where two separate tragic accidents have happened on Lake Huron.
On the evening of June 29th, around 6:20 p.m., Lambton County OPP, Lambton EMS, and local firefighters were called to the beach near the end of Ipperwash Road after getting reports that someone needed help. When they arrived, they found a person who had already been brought to shore by another person. Early information shows that the 44-year-old from Lambton Shores had jumped from a boat into shallow water and became unresponsive. The individual was taken to the hospital but was sadly pronounced deceased.
Then, the very next day on June 30th, just after 4 p.m., emergency crews were called to another area of Ipperwash Beach, near East Parkway Drive, after hearing that two swimmers were in trouble. A 12-year-old from London was safely rescued by people nearby and taken to the hospital to be checked out. Unfortunately, an 18-year-old from London was found unresponsive in the water. Despite the efforts of first responders, the young person was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Police say both investigations are still ongoing. The Lambton County OPP also thanked the caring members of the public who stepped in to help before emergency teams arrived.
Anyone who might have information about either incident is asked to call the Lambton OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
