The Village of Bayfield Marina has been awarded the 2025 Blue Flag status. This is a special international award given only to marinas that meet 38 strict environmental standards set by The Foundation for Environmental Education. Thanks to the hard work of the municipality, community, and visitors who care for the area, Bayfield Marina has become a popular eco-friendly destination for boaters from across Canada and around the world. It’s known as a place where the water stays clean enough to swim, drink, and fish.
To celebrate and continue encouraging people to enjoy and protect the environment, the Municipality of Bluewater, the Village of Bayfield Marina, and local partners are hosting three free community activities this summer and fall.
On Tuesday, July 22nd, from 1 to 3 p.m., families can come to the Bayfield Library on Main Street to make their own kites and learn a bit about the science behind them. Everyone ages three to ninety-nine is welcome.
Later in the summer, on Friday, August 22nnd, from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m., people are invited to the Bayfield South Pier on Long Hill Road to watch the Perseid meteor shower with amateur astronomers. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the rain date will be August 25. Bring a telescope or binoculars and be sure to register by August 18 on the Municipality of Bluewater website so you can be updated about any changes.
There will also be a Watershed Awareness Day coming up, where people can pick up trees they ordered through the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority. This event will take place at the Stanley Community Centre Complex in Varna, with the date still to be announced.
It’s shaping up to be a wonderful season in Bluewater, with plenty of chances to learn about nature and enjoy the outdoors together.
