At its meeting on June 16th, Bluewater Council decided to remove the large weeping willow tree at the corner of Bayfield Main Street North and Catherine Street, right in front of The Little Inn. A recent inspection by an expert found the tree had serious internal decay and carpenter ants, making it unsafe and unlikely to stay healthy for long. The tree is planned to come down today, July 3rd, depending on the weather.
Because this tree is well-known in the community, Council has also asked staff to work with the Bluewater Heritage Advisory Committee to pick a new tree to plant in its place. They will bring these ideas to Council soon.
Staff will also team up with The Little Inn to figure out how to share pieces of wood from the old tree with the community. More details will come after Council reviews the plan.
