Juicy-Fruit Orchards, just outside Thedford, is a vibrant example of how dedication, family ties, and a strong community can help a farm grow from humble beginnings into a flourishing business. At the heart of it all is Carol Veens, who, along with her husband, started this first-generation family farm that today stands as a local success story.
Carol met her husband in the 1980s. In 1986, while they were engaged, a potato farm came up for sale just down the road from Carol’s family home.
This farm is proudly first-generation. Carol and her husband built it from the ground up, with the hope that it might grow into something their children could someday carry on.
Since buying the farm, Carol and her husband have embraced change and growth. They started small, with just a roadside stand selling peaches. From there, they built a larger market along the road, then an even bigger building to keep up with demand.
