Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron has launched a new campaign called Christmas in July with a heartfelt goal: to find 24 new volunteer mentors before Christmas Eve.
Mentoring Coordinator Meghan Hartman says the idea behind the campaign is to remind people that mentorship is a gift that keeps on giving.
Mentors, known as “Bigs,” are matched with “Littles” and spend quality time together doing simple activities like baking, playing games, watching movies, crafting, or going for walks.
As for the commitment, Hartman says that is up to the pair.
Right now, the waitlist for young people looking for mentors continues to grow. That’s why the group hopes to match at least 24 new mentors by the end of the year.
Anyone interested in becoming a mentor can visit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron website to fill out a volunteer inquiry or contact Meghan Hartman directly by phone or email.
