Huron Shores Area Transit (HSAT) is making changes to some of its bus stops in the Municipality of Bluewater to get ready for new upgrades. The improvements will include bus shelters, benches, bike racks, and concrete pads, which need more space than the current stop signs that were first installed in 2020.
In Zurich, the bus stop in front of the Bluewater Municipal Office on Mill Avenue has been moved to Victoria Lane near Main Street, next to the parking lot. This new location is closer to places like the Bluewater Area Family Health Team, Blessings Community Store, the library, and the pharmacy. It also has room for a new bus shelter.
In Hensall, the bus stop that was attached to the library has moved to the parkette at 120 King Street for westbound travel toward Grand Bend. A new eastbound stop has also been added on the south side of King Street near D&D Variety for travel to Bayfield and Goderich.
In Bayfield, the stop at Cameron Street has been removed. Riders will now use the more central stop next to Bayfield’s Old Town Hall on The Square.
A new stop is also planned at Ellen Street South and Mill Road in Brucefield. It won’t be active until January 2026 because of road and bridge construction. When ready, it’s expected to make it easier for people in nearby communities like Vanastra and Clinton to use the bus service.
The new bus shelters will have solar-powered lights, benches, and space for posters that will help bring in money through advertising. Bike racks will be added so people who live too far to walk can ride their bikes to the stop and lock them up before getting on the bus.
