United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH) is once again shining a light on how expensive housing is affecting local residents. This summer, UWPH is sharing the real-life stories of two people from the Perth-Huron region who are struggling to find and afford a place to live.
The campaign, called Workers Need Housing, features two short videos. The videos were made with support from the Four County Labour Market Planning Board (FCLMPB). Their research shows that high housing costs are the biggest challenge local employers face when trying to hire new staff. The Perth-Huron region has a low unemployment rate but continues to struggle with worker shortages in areas like retail, hospitality, and healthcare.
The Workers Need Housing videos are being shared on social media to raise awareness and encourage people to support more funding for non-profit housing. Ryan Erb added that UWPH is working on new housing projects through its own non-profit housing organization, United Housing. The goal is to create housing that workers can truly afford.
