The Ailsa Craig Village Association is getting ready to celebrate the community’s Scottish roots with its annual Highland Games and Scottish Festival this Saturday. The event takes place at the Ailsa Craig Recreation Centre and promises a full day of fun, food, and tradition for all ages.
The day kicks off with a community breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m., followed by the Highland Games Kilt Run and official opening ceremonies at 11 a.m. Visitors can enjoy the excitement of traditional Scottish heavy events like the caber toss and hammer throw throughout the day.
The Scottish Festival and Thistle Market will feature local artisan vendors and Celtic-themed workshops, organized by the Ailsa Craig Arts Centre. Families can visit the kids and youth area, and cheer on the firefighters in a Tug of War competition.
The Royal Scots War of 1812 Reenactors will put on two loud and exciting cannon fire demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Food options include local food trucks, a Lions Club BBQ, a Legion Beer Garden, and an indoor tea room. In the evening, guests can enjoy a pig roast hosted by the New Moon Community Homestead and live music, with the night wrapping up with a performance by South of 7.
The festival is a great chance to experience Scottish culture and celebrate community spirit in Ailsa Craig.
