The Goderich Flyers have announced they are taking a leave of absence from the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) for the 2025–26 season.
In a message shared with fans and the community, the team expressed sadness over the decision, but said it was necessary due to ongoing challenges, especially with recruiting new players. The team explained that many players prefer to play closer to home, school, or work, and the Flyers’ location in Goderich has made it harder to attract talent compared to teams in larger cities.
The Flyers say their Executive and Hockey Operations staff have worked hard over the past few months to build a strong, competitive team. Despite those efforts, the organization has decided to pause operations for one season. They have submitted a formal leave request to the PJHL, and the League’s Board of Directors will now decide what happens next.
Players currently signed to the team will become free agents and can try out for other PJHL teams for the 2025–26 season. Sponsors who have already contributed to the team will be contacted in the coming weeks to arrange refunds.
The Flyers thanked everyone who has supported the organization over the years, players, fans, donors, and volunteers. They remain hopeful that with community support and successful fundraising, the team will return to the league for the 2026–27 season.
The team also shared that this decision was not taken lightly and was never the goal of the Executive or Hockey Operations staff. They are committed to the future of the program and to continuing to help young athletes grow both on and off the ice.
