The Municipality of Bluewater is reminding residents about the rules for outdoor burning to keep everyone safe and to prevent unwanted fires.
Anyone planning to have an outdoor fire must follow the guidelines in Bluewater’s Open Air Burning By-law. Fires must be attended at all times, and you should always have a way to put the fire out nearby. Fires should also not cause problems for your neighbours, like excessive smoke or smell.
There are different types of fires allowed. Cooking fires are small, controlled fires used to cook food on a grill or barbecue. Recreational fires, like small campfires, are also allowed if they follow certain rules. These fires must be set in a safe place, on your own property, and inside a proper fire pit or container. They must only use safe burn materials like dry firewood or store-bought fire logs. Fires are not allowed on public property like beaches and must be kept far away from buildings or property lines.
It is not allowed to burn things like household garbage, plastic, leaves, treated wood, construction materials, or anything that could be harmful to people or the environment. These materials are considered dangerous and are strictly banned.
Fires for training or demonstrations also need permission from the Bluewater Fire Chief.
For more details or to apply for a permit, residents can check the Open Air Burning By-law on the Municipality of Bluewater’s website.
