A swimmer is in hospital in critical condition after being pulled from Lake Huron at Pinery Provincial Park on Saturday, July 26th.
Emergency crews from the Lambton County OPP responded to the call shortly after 5:00 p.m. They arrived to find a person who had been rescued from the water and was already receiving CPR from bystanders on shore.
According to police, the 50-year-old from Hannon, Ontario, was swimming in the lake when they got into trouble. Thankfully, quick-thinking members of the public jumped in to help and started life-saving efforts until emergency responders arrived.
The swimmer was taken to hospital in critical condition, and the investigation into what happened is still ongoing.
Police are thanking the people who stepped in to help, calling their actions vital during those first moments.
The OPP is reminding everyone that while Lake Huron is a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors, its waters can be unpredictable. Swimmers are urged to take safety seriously and always wear a lifejacket or personal flotation device when out in open water.
