Parts of four local conservation areas are temporarily closed as maintenance and upgrade work takes place. The affected areas include Morrison Dam, Clinton, Bannockburn, and Lucan Conservation Areas.
At Morrison Dam Conservation Area near Exeter, a section of the South Huron Trail east of Morrison Line and next to Morrison Reservoir is closed to foot traffic while crews remove a dead tree. In addition, the bridge over the Ausable River, located between the 5.0 and 5.2 kilometre markers on the trail, has been closed since June 23 for railing improvements. While the bridge is closed, visitors can still enjoy the trail on either side, though the loop that includes the bridge is not accessible.
Smaller sections of trails at Clinton, Bannockburn, and Lucan Conservation Areas are also closed while digging work is done around privies. These closures are expected to be short-term and only affect small parts of the properties.
Morrison Line between Highway 83 and Huron Street is also temporarily closed, but local traffic, including those heading to the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority office and the South Huron Trail, can still access the area from the north.
All closures will remain in place until further notice. Updates and maps of the affected trails are available on the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority website.
