Huron County OPP officers will be out in full force this Labour Day long weekend to help keep roads and waterways safe. From August 29th to September 1st, members of the Huron OPP and the OPP Marine Unit will be taking part in a special traffic campaign.
Police say their focus will be on the “Big Four” dangers: distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding and aggressive driving, and not wearing seatbelts.
So far this year, 214 people have died on OPP-patrolled roads. Police say speeding, alcohol or drug use, driver distraction, and not wearing seatbelts continue to be the main causes of fatal crashes.
With more vehicles expected on the roads over the holiday weekend, officers are reminding everyone to be patient, stay sober, and drive carefully to and from their destinations. They also ask drivers to share the road with cyclists, farm equipment, and pedestrians.
Police add that traffic safety is a shared responsibility and want everyone to enjoy a safe long weekend.
