On Tuesday, August 19th, London Bridge Child Care informed parents and the Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) that it would no longer be running the Before and After School Programs at Exeter Elementary School and Bluewater Coast Elementary School. The provider also announced it would be ending its Preschool Program at Bluewater Coast.
The AMDSB says these programs are essential for local families, and it is now looking for a new childcare provider to take over. The board thanked London Bridge Child Care for its years of service but acknowledged the decision leaves families in a difficult position.
Since receiving the notice, the board has been in contact with Huron County Children’s Services and has invited other providers to step in. However, staffing shortages remain a major issue for childcare operators across Huron and Perth Counties. Waiting lists for childcare programs remain long, and while space in schools is available, many operators are unable to staff new or expanded programs.
The AMDSB says it will continue working with Huron County, the Municipality of South Huron, the Municipality of Bluewater, and other partners to find solutions. Families will receive updates as soon as new information becomes available.
