Several events are being planned across Huron County this September as part of Welcoming Week, to help newcomers feel more connected to their communities.
Manager of the Local Immigration Partnership Program, Mark Nonkes, said the goal is to make newcomers feel included and give them a chance to meet neighbours.
One of the highlights is the Meet Your Neighbour Nights.
These are drop-in events where residents can enjoy refreshments, meet new people, and connect with local groups.
Wingham will also host a Meet your Neighbour night. The first night will be in Brussels on September 10th at 7pm.
Nonkes said events like these are important because moving to a new community can be isolating. He also noted these events are for everyone to drop by.
The events are supported by the Municipality of South Huron and the Huron County Library, with help from groups like the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario.
