The Bayfield River Flats Natural Area is closed to the public while two major improvement projects take place this fall. The entrance and parking lot are shut down until further notice as construction work moves ahead in September and October.
The work will focus on two big upgrades. One project will use natural methods to help stop erosion along the riverbank. The other will see the installation of a new canoe and kayak launch. Both projects are expected to make the area stronger and more enjoyable in the long run.
During this time, the main construction area will not be open to the public. Some limited access may be available on the pedestrian walkway under the bridge, but most of the site will remain off-limits.
