Food insecurity took centre stage in the House of Commons this week.
Haldimand–Norfolk MP Leslyn Lewis pressed the federal government on rising grocery costs under the Liberal government.
She pointed to sharp increases in food prices.
She told Parliament that food bank visits in Toronto alone surpassed four million last year.
She asked when the prices will start to come down.
Responding on behalf of the government, Minister of Jobs and Families Patty Hajdu defended the Liberal record, pointing to investments in job creation and tax cuts.
Hajdu told the House that Canadians “chose well” in re-electing a government that invests in people and ensures support during difficult times.
