Week Two of Norfolk and area high school varsity football had its share of surprises—even before the opening kickoff. A Friday power outage zapped two matchups, forcing Valley Heights at Delhi and Holy Trinity at Waterford to be rescheduled for early this week. But the games that went ahead delivered plenty of juice.
In Simcoe, the Pauline Johnson Thunderbirds lit up the scoreboard, flattening the hometown Sabres 42-0 to improve to 2-0. Last year these teams clashed in a semi-final thriller decided by a last-second field goal that went Simcoe’s way. This time, the Thunderbirds left no doubt, dominating all four quarters while the Sabres continued to search for their first touchdown of the season.
Meanwhile, the “Battle of the Grand” turned into a Blue Devil blitz. McKinnon Park stormed past the Cayuga Warriors 50-15, moving to 2-0 and showing the kind of explosive offense that can flip a scoreboard in a hurry. Cayuga dropped to 0-2 but battled to the final whistle.
With make-up games looming and early contenders emerging, Norfolk County fans can buckle up for a season already delivering amazing gridiron moments and Friday fireworks.
