The Avon Maitland District School Board is taking steps to educate students and staff about the history and impacts of residential schools as Canada observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation today.
AMDSB Indigenous Education Lead Matt Baker, told myFM about the importance of the day.
To mark the day, the school board has partnered with the Orange Shirt Society.
Baker said education plays a key role in reconciliation.
He hopes the day will leave a lasting impact on students and staff.
He shared some tips for parents and families who want to help their children learn more outside of school.
Baker’s message to everyone was clear.
