Huron County OPP officers will be taking part in the annual Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend Traffic Campaign from Friday, October 10th to Monday, October 13th.
The campaign will focus on keeping roads safe for everyone by targeting the “Big Four” causes of serious road accidents. These include distracted driving, impaired driving by alcohol or drugs, speeding or aggressive driving, and not wearing seatbelts.
Last year, during the same weekend campaign, Huron OPP officers stopped 124 vehicles and laid 89 charges. These included 45 charges for speeding, 10 for seatbelt violations, 4 for impaired driving, and 1 for stunt driving. Officers also handed out 54 warnings to drivers. No distracted driving charges were laid in 2024, but police continue to watch closely for it.
Police remind everyone that traffic safety is a shared responsibility. Drivers are encouraged to make safe choices behind the wheel and help keep Ontario’s roads safe for all.
