The Bayfield River Valley Trail Association (BRVTA) and the Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy (HTLTC) are celebrating two new projects at the Bayfield River Flats Natural Area. The event will take place on Saturday, October 25th, starting at 10:30 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a guided hike at 11 a.m.
The two new projects include a canoe and kayak launch and riverbank protection using natural methods. The riverbank project restores 300 square metres of land, improves fish habitat, and will include planting native trees and shrubs in the spring. This work is supported by provincial and county partners, with the Province of Ontario through the Ontario Community Environment Fund (OCEF) as the lead funder.
The canoe and kayak launch was made possible thanks to a generous donation from a community member. Additional community support helped raise over $20,000 to complete the project.
The Bayfield River Flats Natural Area is permanently protected as a wildlife habitat and recreation space. BRVTA volunteers maintain the trail at no cost to the public.
